Ctek MULTI XS7000 Smart Battery Charger 12V

MULTI XS 7000
The universal battery charger

The MULTI XS 7000 is an ideal battery charger for your caravan, car and boat.
The battery charger is well suited for year-round use. Thanks to its SUPPLY mode the battery charger provides power even without a battery.

The SUPPLY mode is indispensable when changing the battery as you avoid losing complicated program settings. Using RECOND mode, you can correct the acid stratification that often occurs in deeply discharged batteries. The battery thereby has its power restored and has a longer service life.

Features

Delivered with connection lead with clamps.
The charger can be connected for months, ideal for seasonal vehicles.
Compact design with mounting holes for permanent assembly.
5 year warranty.

Charging
The MULTI XS 7000 has a fully automatic, eight step charge:

1.Desulphation
Desulphation with pulsing for sulphated batteries.
2.Start
Starting phase for charging. The starting phase continues until the battery’s terminal voltage has risen over a preset level. At this point, charging goes into the bulk phase. If the terminal voltage has not reached the preset level within a preset time, charging is suspended. The error mode is indicated. This indicates a battery which is faulty or has too large capacity. If a large battery is charged that has been severely discharged, it may be necessary to restart the charger after a preset time.
3.Bulk
Primary charging where approximately 80% of the charging takes place. The charger delivers maximum current until the terminal voltage has risen to the preset level. After a number of hours, the charger goes on to the next phase, even if maximum voltage is not reached.
4.Absorption
Final charging, voltage is kept at the preset level. During this phase, the current is gradually reduced. If the maximum length of time for Absorption is exceeded, the charger automatically continues with Analysis.
5.Analysis
Charging is suspended for a short period and the battery voltage measured. If it falls too quickly, the battery is probably faulty. Charging is suspended and an error is indicated.
6.Recond
Recond is used to recover severely discharged flooded batteries and for reconditioning severely discharged batteries suffering from stratification. The voltage increases with reduced current for a limited time period (depending on the charge level of the battery at start). The higher voltage starts some gassing and mixing of the acid, which is beneficial for both battery capacity and expected life. The battery could emit explosive gas during this step.
7.Maintenance charging - float
During the first 10 days of maintenance charging the battery is maintained with constant voltage.
8.Maintenance charging - pulse
State of charge varies between 95% and 100%. The battery receives a pulse when the voltage sinks, keeping the battery in good shape when it is not being used. The charger can be connected for months at a time. If the battery is charged and/or the battery’s terminal voltage drops, the charger starts a charge pulse until the voltage has reached the preset level. The charge pulse is then interrupted and the cycle is repeated as long as the charger is in pulse maintenance phase. If the terminal voltage drops even lower, the charger automatically reverts to the beginning of the charging curve. If possible, check the water level in the battery.

Batteries
The MULTI XS 7000 can be set very easily to charge different types of lead-acid batteries (Wet, MF, GEL and AGM) and conditions. You will find an explanation of the various battery types under Charger University, Battery Types.

14.4V MODE
Normal setting for wet batteries, MF and for most Gel batteries.

14.7V MODE
This setting is recommended for batteries at temperatures below 5°C. It is also recommended for many AGM batteries. This setting is not recommended for maintenance charging when the temperature at times exceeds +5°C. In this case, the NORMAL mode is recommended.

13.6V/SUPPLY MODE
In this mode, the charger provides a constant voltage of 13.6V. This is the best maintenance mode for batteries where maximum capacity is important, for instance for cleaning machinery and golf carts. It is not appropriate to charge a completely discharged battery in Supply mode, since this will not result in a completely charged battery. The MULTI XS 7000 can also be used as a power supply without a battery attached in this setting. No counter voltage is required to start the charger in this mode. Note that the charger is not spark free in this mode.

16V/RECOND MODE
This mode is used to recondition very discharged batteries where you could expect a stratified acid (high acid weight in the bottom, low on top). Use this mode with care because it can cause some water loss. 15.7V is normally not a problem for electronics, but consult the manufacturer when in doubt. Life of light bulbs can be reduced by higher voltages. Try to avoid using 12V lamps connected to the battery during this phase. Maximum effect and minimum risk for electronics is achieved by disconnecting the battery before charging.

(*)
Back current drain is what drains the battery if the charger is connected without the power cord connected. The MULTI XS 3600's extremely low back current drain corresponds to 1Ah per month. Many other chargers have 1Ah per day.

(**)
Ripple denotes the amount of interference there is to the current and voltage. A high current ripple heats the battery and shortens its life. A linear charger has a current ripple of 70 - 400% which is much larger than the maximum 5% for a modern sealed battery. Voltage ripple could harm other equipment, which is connected to the battery. The MULTI XS 3600's ripple is only 2%. The battery gains a long service life and there is no risk of damage to other electronic devices connected to the battery.

Equipment
The MULTI XS 7000 is delivered with battery lead with clamps, colour coded for easy +/- identification.

If the battery is difficult to access, the lead with eyelet terminals can be mounted to the battery, and the quick connectors are located so that it is easily reached for charging.

You can also purchase additional leads allowing you to have one lead with eyelet terminals fixed to all your vehicles with batteries that are difficult to get at, and charge them simply from the same charger.

Temperature
To protect the charger from overheating, the MULTI XS 7000 is fitted with power limitation. The power reduces when the ambient temperature increases. The power also reduces if the charger were to be covered, which protects the charger from damage. The charger continues to work, but at a lower output. When the ambient temperature drops, the power automatically increases again.

Safety

Electronic safe, the charger will not damage vehicle electronics. The battery does not normally need to be disconnected from the vehicle when charging.
Minimal gas build-up and a patent-pending spark protection system.
Short circuit and reverse polarity protected.
Double insulation.
Splash and dust proof (IP65) and approved for outdoor use.
