MULTI
XS 25000
For those who need power The MULTI XS 25000 is the perfect
choice for batteries that require quick charging, including
caravans, boats and the workshop. The temperature sensor adjusts
the charge voltage to suit the battery’s temperature to guarantee
effective battery charging in all climates. Using its SUPPLY
mode, the battery charger provides power even without a battery.
The SUPPLY mode is indispensable when changing the battery
as you avoid losing difficult-to-restore program settings.
Using RECOND mode, you can correct the acid stratification
that often occurs in deeply discharged batteries. The battery
thereby has its power restored and has a longer service life.

Charging
The MULTI XS 25000 charges and analyses in eight fully automatic
steps.
1.Desulphation
Desulphation with pulsing for sulphated batteries.
2.Start
Starting phase for charging. The starting phase continues
until the batterys terminal voltage has risen over a
preset level. At this point, charging goes into the bulk phase.
If the terminal voltage has not reached the preset level within
a preset time, charging is suspended. The error mode is indicated.
This indicates a battery which is faulty or has too large
capacity. If a large battery is charged that has been severely
discharged, it may be necessary to restart the charger after
a preset time.
3.Bulk
Primary charging where approximately 80% of the charging takes
place. The charger delivers maximum current until the terminal
voltage has risen to the preset level. After a number of hours,
the charger goes on to the next phase, even if maximum voltage
is not reached.
4.Absorption
Final charging, voltage is kept at the preset level. During
this phase, the current is gradually reduced. If the maximum
length of time for Absorption is exceeded, the charger automatically
continues with Analysis.
5.Analysis
Charging is suspended for a short period and the battery voltage
measured. If it falls too quickly, the battery is probably
faulty. Charging is suspended and an error is indicated.
6.Recond
Recond is used to recover severely discharged flooded batteries
and for reconditioning severely discharged batteries suffering
from stratification. The voltage increases with reduced current
for a limited time period (depending on the charge level of
the battery at start). The higher voltage starts some gassing
and mixing of the acid, which is beneficial for both battery
capacity and expected life. The battery could emit explosive
gas during this step.
7.Maintenance charging - float
During the first 10 days of maintenance charging the battery
is maintained with constant voltage.
8.Maintenance charging - pulse
State of charge varies between 95% and 100%. The battery receives
a pulse when the voltage sinks, keeping the battery in good
shape when it is not being used. The charger can be connected
for months at a time. If the battery is charged and/or the
batterys terminal voltage drops, the charger starts
a charge pulse until the voltage has reached the preset level.
The charge pulse is then interrupted and the cycle is repeated
as long as the charger is in pulse maintenance phase. If the
terminal voltage drops even lower, the charger automatically
reverts to the beginning of the charging curve. If possible,
check the water level in the battery.
Using the MULTI XS 25000 gives your battery an optimum service
life and operational reliability.
Batteries
The MULTI XS 25000 can be set very easily to charge different
types of lead-acid batteries (Wet, MF, GEL and AGM) and conditions.
You will find an explanation of the various battery types
under Charger University, Battery Types.
The
MULTI XS 25000 charges a wide range of battery sizes, from
50Ah to 500Ah.
NORMAL
Normal setting for wet batteries, MF and for most Gel batteries.
A somewhat lower charge voltage may be preferable for some
GEL batteries.
SUPPLY
In this mode, the charger delivers a constant voltage. This
is the best maintenance mode for applications where maximum
capacity from the battery is important. The MULTI XS 25000
could also be used as a power supply without a battery attached
in this setting. No counter voltage is necessary to start
the charger in this mode. Note that the charger is not spark
free in this mode.
RECOND
This mode is used to recover severely discharged batteries
where you might expect stratified acid (high acid weight at
the bottom, low on top). Use this mode with care, as the high
voltage may cause some water loss. 16V is normally no problem
for electronics in 12V systems, although maximum effect and
minimum risk for electronics is achieved by disconnecting
the battery.

*)
Back current drain is what drains the battery if the charger
is connected without the power cord connected.
**)
Ripple denotes the amount of interference there is to the
current and voltage. A high current ripple heats the battery
and shortens its life. A linear charger has a current ripple
of 70 - 400% which is much larger than the maximum 5% for
a modern sealed battery. Voltage ripple could harm other equipment,
which is connected to the battery.
The
MULTI XS 25000 delivers voltage and current with very low
ripple. The battery gains a long service life and there is
no risk of damage to other electronic devices connected to
the battery.
***)
IP 44 cannot be guaranteed unless the charger is positioned
with its top or long side facing up.
Equipment
The MULTI XS 25000 is delivered with a battery lead with clamps,
colour coded for easy +/- identification.
The
charger also has a sensor cable located together with the
battery leads. The unit automatically adjusts the charge voltage
if the temperature deviates from +25°C. Higher temperatures
lower the voltage and lower temperatures raise the voltage.
The sensor cable can be extended or shortened without affecting
functionality.
Temperature
To protect the charger from overheating, the MULTI XS 25000
is fitted with power limitation. The power reduces when the
ambient temperature increases. The power also reduces if the
charger were to be covered, which protects the charger from
damage. The charger continues to work, but at a lower output.
When the ambient temperature drops, the power automatically
increases again.
Safety
Electronic
safe, the charger will not damage vehicle electronics. The
battery does
not normally need to be disconnected from the vehicle when
charging.
